Essay on Gandhi Jayanti 

Gandhi Jayanti is an Indian National festival celebrated on 2nd October every year. We celebrate Gandhi Jayanti every year in honor of great freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation who remembered for his contributions towards the Indian freedom struggle was born on 2nd October 1869. Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday is a gazetted holiday in India so government offices, post offices, educational institutes and banks remain closed on this day.

On this auspicious day Prayer services, commemorative ceremonies and tributes organize all over India. People get tighter at Raj Ghat on the banks of the river Yamuna in New Delhi where Mahatma Gandhi’s body was cremated on January 31, 1948 and sing Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram, Gandhi’s favorite devotional song, offer flowers and remember this great freedom fighter. Many people also offer their wishes at the Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi where Mahatma Gandhi was shot on January 30, 1948. Many people and our great leaders including the Rashtrapati and the Prime Minister pay homage to this great leader of the Nation. They place wreaths at the Samadhi and offerings of flowers. All religions prayer is held at the Samadhi in the morning. Charkha competition is held and Ram Dhun is sung.

Mahatma Gandhi’s full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, and died on January 30, 1948. He played a key role in the Indian independence movement. Employing nonviolent civil disobedience he led India to independence. He was sent to jail many times believed in the social equality. He was against untouchability and does lots of good things for untouchable. He called them Harijans or the children of God. Respectfully we call him Bapu or the Father of the Nation.
